Speaker:

Hello, hello, hello.

2

:

We are back.

3

:

Season two, I think we're calling it of the appeal.

4

:

It's been a few months or so since we've actually aired an appeal show, Sia.

5

:

I'm super excited to get back raising awareness and money for great as I'm calling them

community building organizations and be back on on air with you.

6

:

But how was your Super Bowl Sunday?

7

:

Hello, my friend.

8

:

my goodness gracious.

9

:

Can I just tell you?

10

:

We talk to each other like every day.

11

:

So the fact that he's like, Oh, we've been gone for two months.

12

:

I'm like, what are you talking about?

13

:

I talk to you every day, but no, the appeal.

14

:

Can I just tell you, I've gotten some great feedback on just some of the nonprofit friends

of mine.

15

:

They're like, dude, that's so nice of you to just highlight help causes.

16

:

And so I'm extraordinarily happy that we're back for season two.

17

:

Yeah, me too.

18

:

We got a few new twists, a few new sponsors.

19

:

But I'm hoping we have the same intro because I love that as you know, so why don't we

kick that off and we'll get the show started.

20

:

Let's do it.

21

:

See, now I was complaining backstage how at the end of last season I wasn't able to hear

the intro, but I heard it this time.

22

:

So I don't know what button you pushed or what switch you clicked.

23

:

It worked.

24

:

It's more like you, honey.

25

:

I don't know what to tell you because other people can hear it perfectly fine.

26

:

It's always me, right?

27

:

It's always me.

28

:

See, listen, you know how that was...

29

:

You weren't confused that we haven't aired a show.

30

:

You've just been annoyed for the last two months with me still, haven't you been?

31

:

I'm never annoyed.

32

:

Well, okay, wait, let me clarify, guys.

33

:

I love you like a brother, Chris.

34

:

And so yes, you annoy me like a little brother at times, but professionally, dude, I

cannot tell you how incredibly busy everyone's been.

35

:

just we usually just, you know, have an opportunity to like chat.

36

:

Like now it's kind of like, I need this.

37

:

It's like the niceties have dropped.

38

:

You know, it's like, you do this?

39

:

You I love it.

40

:

You're growing.

41

:

Congrats.

42

:

Congrats.

43

:

No, exactly.

44

:

You know, we hit a one year as a company a few weeks ago as Hail Hail.

45

:

auctions and it's just been a blast, know, and it's been an honor to work with you and

some of the other partners as we call them.

46

:

But as I mentioned earlier, you know, we got some new sponsors and I wanted to highlight,

you know, a few of them and just talk quickly about who we've been able to partner with

47

:

and why before we welcome today's guests and get to the matter of today's subject.

48

:

So why don't you bring that up?

49

:

And, you know, I want to just personally thank first off you, Sia.

50

:

Brilliant Being Media, for one, this show cannot be done without, for those that know me

or don't, I'm not very technology savvy, if you will.

51

:

I'm an income poop when it comes to anything computer.

52

:

I'm illiterate.

53

:

I'm good at other things.

54

:

I'll own those as well.

55

:

But Sia, you've just been so instrumental to the growth that you were just congratulating

me on.

56

:

So I too want to congratulate you.

57

:

Thanks for all your help and all the work you've helped put into building Hail Hail

Auctions.

58

:

And I love you for it.

59

:

And secondarily, I want to highlight Speak Easy Custom Tattoo.

60

:

Speak Easy Custom Tattoo is located in the Wicker Park neighborhood of Chicago in the

historic Flatiron building.

61

:

With over 30 years of experience, they have a curated staff of magnificently talented

local and international artists that continue to host monthly guests from all over the

62

:

world.

63

:

They're an appointment-only custom tattoo shop offering a wide range of styles in a clean

and relaxing atmosphere.

64

:

Whatever you're looking for, they will absolutely help make your vision come to life.

65

:

Check out their website at www.speakeasycustomtattoo.com and we hope to see you there

soon.

66

:

Personally, I can tell you my art on my body is done by Patrick at Speak Easy and I won't

let anybody else put a needle on my skin.

67

:

His work is magnificent.

68

:

His art is beautiful.

69

:

The shop is amazing and we'll highlight them a little bit more throughout this season, but

see ya.

70

:

We have some great sponsors, have a lot more surprises in store, but it's enough from you.

71

:

I'm ready to bring Tom on and talk a little bit about the Rotary and the Classic, okay?

72

:

Thank you very much.

73

:

And I always want to say thank you for the kind words about Brilliant B Media.

74

:

If I can, give one big plug shout out for those watching us right now in this week,

particular and once every month, basically.

75

:

We've got 10 shows, productions from Brilliant B Media out this week.

76

:

So if anyone is like feeling really ambitious.

77

:

and has a lot of time and support.

78

:

By all means, we'd love to see you join all of our shows.

79

:

So if you want to go, go to Brilliant Bee Media.

80

:

You'll see all the lists of all of our shows.

81

:

So on that note, my friend.

82

:

All right.

83

:

Well, bring on Tom.

84

:

Tom is my good friend with the Rotary of Schaumburg Hoffman Estates.

85

:

He is the co-chair or chair, if you will, for the classic Caribbean themed event this

coming March 8th.

86

:

And it's just been so fun to get to know him, to get to know the committee.

87

:

working on the classic and I'll talk about my love for the rotary in general with Tom.

88

:

So see you with that being said, let's bring Tom on.

89

:

Yeah, there he is.

90

:

Well, where's your hat?

91

:

We're going to talk about it.

92

:

didn't go Caribbean yet.

93

:

Okay.

94

:

All right.

95

:

Fair, fair, fair.

96

:

So Tom, I know I probably didn't do you a good enough service and introducing you.

97

:

think the world of you, why don't you tell listeners and viewers a little bit who you are

and then we'll get into the heart of the matter show.

98

:

Yeah, so I am the chair of the Caribbean Classic this year.

99

:

Rotary Club Schomburg-Hoffman Estates.

100

:

Every year we do what's called the Classic.

101

:

It's our big fundraiser.

102

:

We raise anywhere between $120,000 and $180,000 in one night or the six months that lead

up to it and then we just brag that it's just one night.

103

:

And this year we've got a Caribbean theme.

104

:

So we've got the Caribbean stuff going on, but Rotary does so much good stuff, but

105

:

None of that is possible without raising funds on March 8th at the Meridian in Rolling

Meadows.

106

:

So yeah, no, you said it best.

107

:

The Rotary does great stuff.

108

:

None of it is possible with without funding, private personal donations, etc.

109

:

But you know those watching and listening may not exactly know what the Rotary does,

right?

110

:

We all have great events in our communities.

111

:

4th July celebrations and October Fests and the list goes on and on.

112

:

But you know we see the Rotary, but we don't know exactly what it is they do so.

113

:

Talk a little bit about what the Rotary Club of Schomburg and Hoffman Estates actually

does.

114

:

So Rotary in general, their international appeal, so to speak, is eliminating polio.

115

:

So they many years ago had the audacious goal of eliminating polio in the world, and

they're still working on it.

116

:

But it's way down with the vaccines and everything like that.

117

:

Each club.

118

:

has their own little pet projects.

119

:

Ours is specifically for Schomburg and Hoffman Estates nonprofits, as well as scholarships

for District 211, as well as Harper College and some other things.

120

:

So what it really comes down to is each rotary.

121

:

See, I can't say it either.

122

:

I say rodeo.

123

:

It's a tongue twister.

124

:

It's a tongue and I'm an auctioneer.

125

:

I say rodeo a lot.

126

:

So that's going to happen a few times, I'm sure, during all of this.

127

:

our Rotary Club and all the Rotary Clubs basically raise money to give it away and to give

it away to outstanding nonprofits like Wings and the Children's Advocacy Center in Hoffman

128

:

Estates, Senior Nutrition every month at the barn in Schomburg.

129

:

We got a toolbox program where we realized that we were giving scholarships to students

that were graduating from District 211 schools.

130

:

schools that were going needed almost $5000 worth put our rotary brains to with project

where we boxes and just uh um send and give them a way to m learning how to fix cars So we

131

:

also have uh schol

132

:

as well as Harper College, where we have the Fishing Well Project, where we give money to

people to come back to school to better their lives.

133

:

Maybe they're not doing their full potential with everything.

134

:

They can go back, get a certificate at Harper College, and we help pay for that along the

way.

135

:

And we've had 55 years almost of giving almost $5 million to the community.

136

:

We do it just 120 to 180 at a time every year with the classic.

137

:

Amazing.

138

:

And as a kid growing up in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago, I can say the work that the

club does matters.

139

:

you know, also, aside from providing, you know, scholarships and funding for nonprofits, I

know you guys do beautification projects throughout the neighborhoods.

140

:

You clean up highways and roadways and things like that that just make a difference that

141

:

if not for the good kind-hearted people like yourself and those in the Rotary.

142

:

Some of that work would just never get done, therefore, you know, degrading the area which

I grew up in.

143

:

And so I just want to say thank you for that and thanks for your leadership.

144

:

And I personally have just gotten so welcomed by the Rotary having spoke long ago about

walking tall and my mental health journey and now serving as the auctioneer for the

145

:

Classic.

146

:

And I just can't say enough.

147

:

thank you for, for, you know, welcoming me and all the work that you do.

148

:

Uh-oh.

149

:

well, we're gonna get to the Caribbean theme, I guess, right?

150

:

Why not?

151

:

I wish I saw you so I could give you...

152

:

I know you want to lay...

153

:

I should be careful of my words, but you would be welcome to lay me and put a hat on.

154

:

So that's enough about the rotary.

155

:

We're going to talk about the classic now.

156

:

And as you said, it's a Caribbean theme and the theme changes every year, does it not?

157

:

Yeah, it does.

158

:

So this year we went with the Caribbean theme so that we can have a band

159

:

Mr.

160

:

Meyers, their local band, been around for 40 years playing Caribbean rock music like Jimmy

Buffett and Bob Marley and all kinds of fun stuff.

161

:

Gonna have the leis and the Caribbean outfits and all kinds of fun different things.

162

:

Last year we were the classic rock classic and so we had classic rock theme and I stole a

little bit of the loop logo if you remember the loop in Of course, 97.9 the loop, Johnny

163

:

B, Jonathan Brandmeyer.

164

:

Exactly.

165

:

So we did that a couple of years ago.

166

:

were doing a Hollywood theme and who knows what's going to happen next year.

167

:

But this year we're focusing on the Caribbean.

168

:

I love it.

169

:

And you know, I'm disappointed and sad in myself that Hail Hill Auctions wasn't a company

yet and able to support your event last year because you know, rock and roll is right up

170

:

my alley.

171

:

But I will say as the auctioneer for the event, this may be the first time that I get to

wear my Caribbean white socks themed swim trunks.

172

:

and maybe some flip flops on stage.

173

:

don't know if that'll be appropriate, but we'll have to discuss a tire a little bit later

on.

174

:

So tell me more.

175

:

You know, the classic is coming up March 8th.

176

:

You mentioned a little bit about where it's at, but you know, give all the details for the

event.

177

:

Where could one go if they want to find out about tickets and things of that sort?

178

:

Yeah, so we've got again, Mr.

179

:

Myers.

180

:

That's who you hear in the background right now playing some steel drums on a loop here.

181

:

We are honoring

182

:

the mayors of both Schomburg and Hoffman Estates.

183

:

So Mayor Tom Daley of Schomburg and Mayor Bill McLeod of Hoffman Estates will also be

there along with their supporting cast of Village of Schomburg and Hoffman Estates folks.

184

:

this week actually on our Facebook page and all the socials, we've got a fun little, you

know, who gave more to, you know, who got more benefit from

185

:

the Rotary Club of Schomburg-Hofman Estates.

186

:

So time out real quick.

187

:

Is that like two having two kids?

188

:

You can't pick your favorite.

189

:

I can't imagine having Schomburg and Hofman Estates fighting over each other.

190

:

Yeah, they you fight over each other.

191

:

You know, I live in Schomburg.

192

:

My kids have all grown up in Schomburg.

193

:

However, they went to Coney, which is in Hofman Estates.

194

:

So I guess I got this love going back and forth.

195

:

you're pulled.

196

:

Yeah, you're like Stretch Armstrong pulled in both ways.

197

:

got it all going on there.

198

:

So yeah, that's part of And then our host is Natalie Martinez, NBC 5 News reporter and

also Weekend Anchor.

199

:

She is hosting for I think the third or fourth or fifth time.

200

:

And so that is going to be outstanding as well.

201

:

She always does an amazing job of keeping everything on track.

202

:

And then we found this guy to do the auctions.

203

:

pulled him out from the gutters of Highland Park and the North Shore there.

204

:

And we said, hey, can you be our auctioneer?

205

:

And there he was, ready to go.

206

:

So look forward to having Chris as our auctioneer.

207

:

Like a bad dream, right?

208

:

No, just kidding.

209

:

I'm so honored to work with you guys.

210

:

Like I said earlier, I just love everything the Rotary stands for and does and has allowed

for me to build relationships with folks like yourselves and the others.

211

:

And Rotary means business and things of that sort.

212

:

So.

213

:

Mr.

214

:

Myers is coming, you we're working hard on the auction packages.

215

:

Talk a little bit about some of the ways in which we're going to raise money that night to

get to that $180,000 or $200,000 goal.

216

:

Sure.

217

:

So we, as part of your ticket, even if you can't make it that night and you still want to

go to s-c-h-e-rotary.org, you can get a raffle ticket.

218

:

A $100 raffle ticket gets you

219

:

The opportunity to win $10,000 that night.

220

:

You do not have to be there to win, but you do get the money.

221

:

We've got different tiers below that, 2,500, 1,500 as well.

222

:

There'll be silent auction items with gift baskets for local restaurants and things like

that.

223

:

And then our live auction will include a wonderful wine tasting.

224

:

One of our members, Gillette, is a

225

:

wineries and it's a wonderful wine tasting, a very classy evening as well as trips to the

Caribbean and some other trips along the way that you know Chris will be auctioning off

226

:

and then we will be asking for just donations along the way so we do a lot of amazing

things that I talked about and we want to make sure that you know we can raise as much

227

:

money as possible to continue doing those things and

228

:

So that's what's going to be happening that night.

229

:

And then when that's all done, when we save the world, one auction item at a time, we'll

be dancing the night away to Caribbean music.

230

:

Mr.

231

:

Myers has been around 40 years.

232

:

They played My Wedding a long time ago.

233

:

They've been a staple in the Northwest suburbs based in the DeKalb area.

234

:

So if you went to NIU, you've heard of Mr.

235

:

Myers.

236

:

you've gone to...

237

:

I love it.

238

:

If you've gone to what is Bahama Breeze, he'll play.

239

:

Yeah.

240

:

So he plays there as well.

241

:

So it's going be a lot of fun.

242

:

Definitely amazing.

243

:

And you know, this year I know we were talking offline and we've talked in some of our

iatives if you don't mind for:

244

:

and beyond for the Rotary?

245

:

I know you guys have big plans coming up and some great organizations which you want to

support.

246

:

Are there any you want to highlight or any initiatives that come to mind?

247

:

Yeah, we're just going to probably more continue what we've been doing, highlighting what

we have done and continuing that along the way.

248

:

Being able to give those toolkits, the scholarships is coming up in the second and third

week in March.

249

:

We award those.

250

:

We fund lots of different projects along the way with Wings and, you know, just kind of

highlighting some of the things we've done in the past is

251

:

At Ascension Hospital in Hoffman Estates, there's the women's wing that we devoted

$250,000 to about 10 or 12 years ago.

252

:

It's a bus for NWSRA, that's the Northwest Leisure Association.

253

:

I think I said that right?

254

:

Yeah, Northwest Special Recreation Association.

255

:

That's my old industry.

256

:

That's my old industry.

257

:

I know Liz and Tracy, they do amazing work.

258

:

And again, I know wholeheartedly and firsthand, if not for the Rotary, organizations like

the NWSRA would not exist, right?

259

:

Having a bus is so integral to get participants from, cheers, cheers.

260

:

I can't drink on the job, but you can.

261

:

We're gonna celebrate on the night of the eighth.

262

:

But you know, the work that you guys do is just so integral.

263

:

And as I said, know, knowing firsthand,

264

:

as a kid growing up in the area, but also now professionally partnering also with great

organizations like the NWSRA and to hear the stories of how what they do would not be

265

:

possible if not for the Rotary.

266

:

Has to make you guys feel good, right?

267

:

Like how long have you been in the Rotary?

268

:

Talk a little bit about that journey.

269

:

Yeah, you know, it's really weird because I first saw the Rotary about 20 years ago when I

was in business.

270

:

And when I first started, I was invited there.

271

:

You know, it's just, seemed a little overwhelming.

272

:

for me.

273

:

So it took me abo to kind of work up the ne guys.

274

:

Uh, since 2017, 2016, I' I became a rotarian, which different when you finally we're not

worthy.

275

:

Yeah, so I when I started doing the um putting together the schol

276

:

became a treasurer and then secretary.

277

:

And then actually I was president on the tail end of the pandemic as we were just coming

out of it.

278

:

yeah, it's we've got a club of about 65 members that has been around since, you know,

what's that 55 years.

279

:

So all through the 70s and 80s and 90s, it just always been able to give back to the

community and

280

:

And we've always seen to on Friday afternoons at Chandler's in Schaumburg.

281

:

It's the golf club in Schaumburg.

282

:

We meet at noon for lunch and we get, we do some planning and things like that.

283

:

We hear from amazing speakers, including yourself a few months back.

284

:

And yeah, it's just a lot of fun and a great way to give back to your community.

285

:

You know, what I was looking for was a way to give back and I just could not.

286

:

figure out just one chari I didn't have that one t should have, I could have research on

where some of you think, ah, all of t minus our expenses for thi to the, the, the area.

287

:

that makes $100,000 a ye

288

:

which is all our volunteers doing the best we can and trying to have some fun along the

way.

289

:

Well, the best you can is astronomically good and it's fantastic.

290

:

can't say enough amazing adjectives descriptors about what I think of the work being done

and the scholarships being given.

291

:

I didn't know about the toolboxes.

292

:

How amazing is that?

293

:

And so I'm just excited to be able to continue to work alongside you to help raise money

for many organizations in one and

294

:

If you haven't already, please, I want to encourage you scan that QR code at the bottom of

your screen.

295

:

It'll take you directly to the website.

296

:

You can learn more about the Rotary Club of Schomburg Hoffman Estates and especially about

the upcoming Caribbean Classic on March 8th.

297

:

Tom, know, one thing I, before we wrap up here, one of the benefits that I've witnessed

firsthand as it relates to being a member of the Rotary and coming to certain events and

298

:

things of that sort is the business of which I'm able to build, right?

299

:

when you are a part of a network of people that you know, like, and trust and have the

same values as you, as it relates to philanthropic efforts and giving back, it helps grow

300

:

our personal business.

301

:

So I wanna just ask you really quickly, what is it that you do?

302

:

I wanna give you the opportunity to talk about you professionally and how folks can work

with you because obviously you're a good human being.

303

:

You give back to the community, you're a member of the Rotary.

304

:

Like, who wouldn't wanna work with you if they need the services you provide?

305

:

So talk a little bit about what you do.

306

:

Sure.

307

:

In my real job, most might say it's in my spare time.

308

:

I'm with a local accounting firm.

309

:

So we do accounting for small business owners, a company called GLM.

310

:

We do accounting and I'm looking for the small business owner that's doing their own

QuickBooks, that's losing their mind and driving themselves crazy by doing QuickBooks.

311

:

We can take that over, help them out and help them not only put the numbers where they

belong,

312

:

in their spreadsheet, but tell them why they're there and how it benefits them.

313

:

So if you hear a business owner say something like tonight, I'm gonna pour myself a

cocktail and I'm gonna do my accounting.

314

:

Tell them about me, Tom Goche, business strategist with GLM, steering direction, matching

ideas with resources.

315

:

I love it.

316

:

Cheers to you.

317

:

That was the best elevator pitch I've ever heard.

318

:

It sounds like you've done that a few times.

319

:

So just a couple.

320

:

Yeah, you know, Tom, it's been a load of fun to get to know you personally and this and

other opportunities and working alongside you and seeing your passion for the Rotary, the

321

:

community, raising money has just been inspirational to me.

322

:

And so I want to thank you for the work you do.

323

:

Again, if you haven't already scanned that QR code, Tom, I want to turn it over to you for

one last minute.

324

:

You know, where can folks once again, find out everything about you, about the Rotary, how

can they buy a ticket?

325

:

Can they make a donation?

326

:

Let's hype this thing up and get more attendees and raise more money.

327

:

Yep, sounds good.

328

:

So should we turn everything back on and get everything going again?

329

:

Let's keep going.

330

:

I love it.

331

:

I love it.

332

:

Look at those Mr.

333

:

Myers.

334

:

Good stuff.

335

:

Very good.

336

:

Very good.

337

:

Yeah.

338

:

So you can scan the QR code that goes directly to our better unite site that will get you

to tickets as well as if you want to sponsor.

339

:

We also are looking for sponsors.

340

:

Twenty five hundred dollars gets you a table of 10 people and promotion all over the

place.

341

:

You can go to our website, s-c-h-e-rotary.org.

342

:

You can click on the link and go to the Better Unite site there, or just learn more about

what Rotary is all about.

343

:

You can see our upcoming speakers.

344

:

You can apply for scholarships, apply for our project selection, and things like that.

345

:

And then you can visit us.

346

:

We meet every Friday at Chandler's.

347

:

That's at the Schomburg Golf Club.

348

:

meet at noon right there.

349

:

that's what we're we're in the process of planning and really looking forward to this one.

350

:

This should be a lot of fun and be able to raise a whole bunch of money.

351

:

So do one of those few things and we'll all be a happy happy Schomburg, Hoplina States

area, including the mayor's of both Schomburg, Hoplina States, Natalie Martinez and of

352

:

course, Mr Myers playing the music all night long.

353

:

We

354

:

I love it, I love it, I love it, I love it.

355

:

So please scan that QR code.

356

:

Tom, you've been an amazing first guest to kick off season two.

357

:

I'm super excited to get this gala season, fundraising season kicked off with you guys

March 8th.

358

:

But that's not true.

359

:

I actually have a first gig coming up, Blaine Elementary out of Chicago.

360

:

Shout out to them.

361

:

But again, we're gonna have a lot of fun March 8th.

362

:

We're gonna be having some Caribbean vibes.

363

:

Scan that QR code.

364

:

Tom, thanks again for being such a great guest.

365

:

See, let's highlight some more sponsors before we say goodbye and move on about our day.

366

:

Can you hear me?

367

:

I can hear you.

368

:

Yeah.

369

:

There we go.

370

:

Yep.

371

:

We're good.

372

:

Go right to that commercial.

373

:

I was waiting for you.

374

:

well, no.

375

:

Here.

376

:

This is our other fellow fellow.

377

:

okay.

378

:

Yeah.

379

:

Yeah.

380

:

Yeah.

381

:

Got it.

382

:

Excuse me.

383

:

We're out of touch, right?

384

:

Like I said, it's been a few months.

385

:

Obviously we highlighted, we highlighted speak easy and brilliant beam as our headlining

sponsors also want to give a huge shout out to Towson and Janice Schocher in.

386

:

They do amazing things with Towsie Brands and of course my good friend Tammy Fisher with

Balancing Act Small Business Services.

387

:

They do great accounting and bookkeeping as well, just like Tom.

388

:

For these folks, this production would not be possible.

389

:

Our ability to uplift great organizations that do good in the world would not be present.

390

:

So I want to thank each and every one of those sponsors.

391

:

And now is when we get to that cool commercial.

392

:

Am I right, Sia?

393

:

Yes.

394

:

All right.

395

:

I'll be better next time.

396

:

I promise.

397

:

You're fine.

398

:
